Back on the run

Catching up with y'all

After a while being lazy, I've spent the last week on holiday completely away from tech and boy oh boy was it a fun week!

Fun games, getting to grips with my fear of heights which is apparently still there and getting to know the wifes side of the family better, which was great!

So I've decided to get back onto the fitness / losing weight wagon, aiming to complete a 10k run in under an hour for August bank holiday. If I can get under 14 st that would be a bonus, I've waivered around 15st for too long for my liking and this podge in front of me has gotta go!

I'm still coding things by the way, mostly web stuff still as there's a bit of a backlog of stuff at the day job but last years games should be getting finished and ported somtime soon also.

In terms of training, I'm doing a 4.5 - 5k jog every other day starting from saturday just gone and I'm looking into what arm exercises I can sort out for my typist like arms

Wish me luck, as I'm gonna need it. Next year, all going well I'll be aiming for a half marathon.

Ooooh, a fitness regime! Keep us up to date as it goes on.
Would love to have a nice build up to the half-marathon!

I guess it's a regime, although that sounds like too strong a word for me

Totalled 15k from 3 runs this week, managed to get ~2.5k without stopping , but a bit of it was going very downhill!

The waethers against me today so I'm hoping for a sunny sunday.

Finally, a decent evening to go for it, managed to get 4.3k down without stopping, then walked it again back home to warm down. Pretty tired out now.

Wow, 4.5k run! So jealous!!
Keep it up!!

Thanks Jay, although my legs, they hurtie muchly! Rest day tomorrow fo sho!

Wifey reckons I should time myself and aim for speed over distance covered but I think I'm going to try distance first this time around.

You ARE using a step/gps tracker, right? 'Cos .. Stats!!!

Oddly enough nope. I just jot my route down afterwards using google maps, i don't have a clue how far I've run until I get back.

Tonight felt like 4 - 5k down to the seafront though and there's a handy green which is just over 1k around it, handy map me do in the link below of the 10k route for august

torbay10k.org.uk/course_map.html

I'll probably get a bit more stats serious in the coming weeks and hopefully, as it'll be warmer I won't be wearing a great big hoodie on me! I'll be interested in my times then definitely. I might post em here also if ya like.

Good luck with the training, having a weight loss goal is great in tandem with a running program

Missed sunday out, but did the 4.3k again tonight, ended up with a time of 26:32, looks like my old ipod touch has a use after all, what with it being tiny and light in my pockets, yay!

Just a couple of laps round the block tonight, the air smells like a lot of people are having a bonfire at the same time, which isn't that great.

Tonight was meant to be a rest night but I felt like I had to do something. No time though, as the phones battery died at some point around
Wednesday, 08 April 2015, 16:03
Jayenkai
Are you near me? My next door neighbours had a bonfire going at 10pm, tonight.. *tsk*
Wednesday, 08 April 2015, 16:12

Must have been more of an inferno than a bonfire to reach me down here in Paignton
Wednesday, 08 April 2015, 16:18
Jayenkai
Either that or you're running further than you thought

gutted, slipped up on something tonight and promptly knee skidded along the pavement!

Walking back home, ow!
Thursday, 09 April 2015, 14:19
Jayenkai
Oooof. Probably best to reduce running times for a while, before attempting another lengthy run. You don't want to aggravate it.

All back home and patched up now, stings quite a bit.

Will have to wait until it scabs over then I'll see how it goes. Of course, Sunday would be my sons Pool Party, turning 6. Will have to see how it goes then.

Glad I didn't damage my glasses or my Hoodie I was wearing at the time!

I rather like that one!

Had a massive, what seems to be a, panic attack last night when I tried to get to sleep, which scared the heck outta me.

Haven't had one of these before and my brain was convincing my body that everything was going to shut down, couldn't feel my arms and could barely speak. Dizzy, faint and puking everywhere, not a great feeling.

Managed to get on the phone to NHS Direct and started to feel better whilst I was on the phone to them, still a bit jittery today and turned up late to the office but yeah, stupid brain, went from normal to pretty much passed out in 5 minutes.

Don't want that to be a thing, think I'll see if I can get my runs in earlier during the day (as opposed to 9pm) so I don't get caught out by invisible slippy things quite so easily.

My knee isn't the bother, my brain however, evidently wants to do bad things to me.

So, Saturday or Monday might be the next run, during the daytime!
Friday, 10 April 2015, 06:24
Jayenkai
Yikes!
Hope it WAS just a panic attack! Scary..
Friday, 10 April 2015, 07:09
cyangames
I'm hoping that too currently. Will see how tonight's sleep goes.

Glad I managed the common sense to grab water and soluble paracetamol before it went really bad last night. I was worried that it could have been something worse so tried the coughing forcefully stuff just in case. No chesticle pain today, just taking it easy with the code 'n' stuff.

Healing up fairly well at the moment, looks like I'll be waiting until sometime late next week (10 or so days then) Until I'm running around like a loon.

Going to try mixing it up with doing a few shorter distances, focusing on speed, then a longer run once a week.

But, for the moment, it's just time to fix up
Sunday, 12 April 2015, 11:43
Jayenkai
Good to hear you're healing up.
Tuesday, 14 April 2015, 07:43
cyangames
Thanks Jay.

Just been to the docs, not infected, which is good news.

Sadly, it's going to take a further week just for it to scab over, then another 2 weeks until it's healed.

So, no running for a while, walking is pretty painful for the moment.

Awww... No running

... Still, there's always coding!!

Indeedy!

It feels a lot better in the mornings than the evenings which is okay, also doing Ludum Dare this weekend, which is going to be awesome, making a game with my bro in Plymouth which is going to be super fun, I haven't done a group coding project in ~10 years so, yeah, should be good!
Monday, 27 April 2015, 15:35

All fixed up now, finally scabbed over n stuff, so, assuming there's no rain one day this week, I'll be playing seeing how far I can go again!

Okay, the running gods are clearly against me, it's been over a month since my last run, then this sickness bug, bleughhh.

Back onto the running next week then. FFS I really want to get under an hour!

After such a long break, it might not be so easy to get back into the swing of things. Pace yourself, and don't be upset if you need to take a breather midway". Just takes a bit of time..

Good luck!
Wednesday, 13 May 2015, 08:55

Yeah, Gonna start with a couple of laps round the block again most likely.
Tuesday, 19 May 2015, 15:09

Did a couple of laps tonight, found it way tougher than I should do, gonna retry again tomorrow.
Tuesday, 19 May 2015, 15:16

Probably just need to get back into the swing of things.
Good luck, tomorrow!!!

starting to get back on track now. 3k of jogging / walking tonight completed. Hopefully will be good to do the same tomorrow! Feeling pretty unfit so no more fizzy pop!
Monday, 08 June 2015, 14:25

5k done tonight, kept off the fizzy pop so far, apart from a can of dr pepper today, felt pretty rough this morning.

Also, I decided to turn the gamejam / 10k / gamejam thing into an event to raise money for the gamers charity Specialeffect, if anyone's interested I can PM you the link of course

Another 5k last night, the walk back up the hill was the most tiring though!

Congrats
Seems you're back to full health again, now. Great stuff!
Thursday, 11 June 2015, 06:11
cyangames
Aye, it's getting back for sure.

Not feeling it too much in my legs the next day either, which is probably a good thing, I think the walk back is doing a decent warm-down for me.

aaand the doc explains why my eyes have been leaking for the last week or so, conjunctivitis! Oh well, still keeping on keeping on

Just over 3km tonight with one walking break for a minute after hitting 2k, not bad. Wwill time myself again starting tomorrow again.

Think I should easily be able to do 3k a day so long as I cool down properly.

That's what this is all about now.

Remind me in a couple of weeks..
Today my sister swam a mile across Lake Windermere, so that cost me a sodding fortune in sponsorship!
(Mostly because she did it for Child Brain Injury Trust.. Couldn't very well ignore that!!!)

So, yeah, kinda sponsored out, today!!!
Saturday, 13 June 2015, 14:59
cyangames
No worries, I kinda felt a little weird posting it so early on tbh.

That's an awesome feat by the way and a worthy charity also!

I remember Lake Windermere as a kid on my holidays to Keswick and the Lake District, including, of course, the pencil factory That must've been bloomin' freezing!

So stats fans! Tonights 5k time is 26:52. Quite happy with that, found my pace towards the end of the run i think and only stopped twice to walk for a minute.
Wednesday, 17 June 2015, 14:35
cyangames
Bit slower tonight, 5k in 27:32, that's okay though, again, two stops, but the first stop to walk was after 14 mins. Yesterdays was after 7.
Wednesday, 24 June 2015, 13:31
cyangames
Okay, 3k in a fairly sedate 17:21 followed by an uphill 1k in 4:56. Bit of a push on that one!

Tonights run, not so good. Chose to walk back up the hilly way to tell my legs off will retry tomorrow / wednesday.

Are you still on target for the Just-Giving run?
https://www.justgiving.com/Refresh-Games

...or is that out the window, now?
Friday, 17 July 2015, 05:59
cyangames
Just about on target to do it, not sure if I'll make it under my hopeful time of 1 hour though, been feeling constantly tired out of late, probably need to cut back the coffee and colas.

cyangames
There've been more runs before tonight btw but tonight is the first of my less than 2 weeks to go runs, so I've upped the distance to 7k and completed that in around 45 minutes tonight. Looks like I'll be just over an hour at this rate but that's cool, finishing will be good enough at this point!
Monday, 10 August 2015, 15:31
