Socoder -> Off Topic -> Classic Screensaver-esque 3D Maze

Ive been programming quite happily tonight, so some strange reason, all that talk of 3D in *mx2 has had me tinkering, and erm, aye, ive knocked out a 3D maze generator thingy me bob... With quads of course, no dirty cubes in this house! No, what the hell can I do with it? I know... I'll order a takeaway and watch bottom live... yeah!

Wahey... I recorded a VHS innit:-

Anyway, aye, there we are... Bit of mini3D in the works, makes nice maps, runs well, me shall ponder!

NO! You're wrong! That's only a 2D Maze Generator!!!!

..
But nice, though
How quick is it to generate? A cheap and dirty "Rescue the Princess!" thing with hiding evil dangers, alongside a multi-level generator, each with a scoreboard and maybe a best-time...
.. I'd play that!

Aye, your right.... Picky bugger!

I've never benchmarked it... But seems nippy enough, I'm happy with it considering it only took an hour playing!

I could do a sultans maze remake.... But it wouldn't be the same with no pseudo 3D setup... Ah... The joys of sitting waiting 40 years for a screen to render!

Sultans Maze - that was always worth waiting 17 minutes for the game to load...

Nice BTW

Thank you please!

I've had a little tinker with it:-

2D[3D]Maze demo

EDIT: Controls: Arrow keys

Not much, now you cannot walk through walls (Tilemap collision code, no inhouse collision gear], got a little bit of a compass thing happening... Just wondering if you can have a play see if anything breaks, just worried that stuff is floats and if the collision guff is off it might act weird!

Cheers snot rags!

I hate it when that happens... Even more so when I dont know how it breaks!

Did you tweak the engine since your original video, or is Win10 doing something odd to it?

The "middle" is no longer in the middle of the screen...

I'll retry later. Have put the laptop on charge..

Well, it looks to be working anyway since I've fixed pre-faff which I forgot about!

That's really nice Dabz. Grimrock III? Dungeon Master 28?

Just one thing - the walls on the sides becomes blurry in the distance, but the falls beyond it, at the back, don't (you can see this in your screenie, but it's even more obvious when moving). Can you fix that?

Yeah, I know they do, easily changed (Hopefully, lol), I haven't used blitz3D for absolutely donkeys years, so some of the parameters of the commands are just me punching out in to see what they do again!

Since all that's grafting I've decided next to tweak the map generator a little to throw in different textures on the wall, sorta zone the map off so you have different areas and what not... I'll play, see what I come up with!

Have fun

I've found myself enjoying map generation, a lot, lately. I'm not sure why that is. Maybe I'm just bored of designing levels!!?

I think thats one of the things that kills me off in finishing a lot of stuff over the years... Level design, I'm a keen as then when you get to a certain point it's like "uggghhhhhh, I'll do it later", unt, vol-au-vent, nowt done!

Not sure why, but, I like playing about with strings... Thats how BambooBasic came about, just fiddling with strings... All that power behind the wheel... And... Strings!

Suppose its the programming equivalent of buying a bairn a £300 electric quad bike then watching the little bugger play with the box hours on end! Hehehe

Still... Keeps us happy... Cardboard boxes!
