Socoder -> Off Topic -> Win10 keylogger

So, everyone is going bananas Windows 10 has a keylogger that rings Redmond, I knew it was in the preview, because, well, that's what you sign up to when you previewed it... But in the release build, can you disable it via Settings > Privacy > Feedback & Diagnostics (along them lines) in Windows 10?

My upgrade wave hasn't rippled yet so still waiting... But is it as easy as that to turn off without resorting to digging into the system?

I've read lots about the supposed keylogging and how to disable it, but you might find this interesting.

www.zdnet.com/article/does-windows-10-really-include-a-keylogger-spoiler-no/

I don't know how accurate any of this info is on keylogging or whether it does or doesn't phone home - I'm sticking with 8.1 for now.

I do online banking, Windows 10 can go fuck itself and have fun doing it. I wonder how many logins Microshaft have harvested already since Windows 10 started finding its way onto computers?

Yeah, that Privacy thing is scary as fuck!
There's also, in there, for some fucking moronic reason, a full set of toggles to switch off background apps.
I don't know why they're in there.
Microsoft don't do good settings screens!!

When Microsoft becomes a sinking ship, along with Apple hopefully, I wouldn't be surprised if they so a runner at the last minute; along with all those bank details that they swagged.

Well... I've upgraded... And as far as I can see... The keylogger is there... But... And this is the big one... But... You can turn it off:-

Settings->Privacy->Speech, inking & typing->Stop getting to know me

As well as if you go to Feedback & diagnostics, you can state if Windows should ask for feedback, with an option that says "Never", as well as underneath that, you can change the diagnostic to Basic, which roughly translates to what we had before in previous versions!

So... From what I can see... All this hell on is a load of bollocks really!

But if it was off by default who would actually turn it on?

Depends on whether it's useful or not.
I've gotten VERY used to telling my iPad to play music, whilst coding!
"Hey, Siri. Play Pulp!"
Kickass!!!

If windows was anywhere near that level, then it'd be handy to have.
Unfortunately....

Not so much!!

Yep... It's defo a mountain out of a mole hill kind of situation I think... There's nothing there really that doesnt stop you protecting your privacy, at the most, Windows will send Microsoft details of your system, as in hardware, which to be fair, they probably do need that type of information for support purposes.

People having been kicking off you cannot turn off Windows Update, which itself... Do you really really really want to do that, yeah, they chuck some sly ones in, like the Windows upgrade one, but, they arent going to spoil your life and you can get rid of the ones you dont want!

Also, a few of the "OMG... Look at this Setting!" screenies that I've seen that lead to people thinking Redmond rape chickens out of spite dont actually exist on the system... Though I have a sneaky suspicion they did... On the preview build of Windows 10!

Nah... I think we have is a simple case here of the haters loving doing a bit of hating and trying to cause a frenzy!

It's not bad at all for first impressions, its totally shot my intel 4 series graphics adaptor when it comes to openGL though... My maze thing now runs like a turd... Though, Anything DirectX7/9 based is fine... Though, this isnt the fault of MS's, just checked and apparently a new Windows 10 driver from intel isnt on the radar for it!

Not a biggy, bit of a bugger, but not major, it was going to happen when support from intel dropped for it... And it seems this is the day!

I'll roll back the laptop before the time runs out on that, I'll play first, just to get a feel of things, then, yeah, will decide then if I'm gonna chuck it on my main PC!

The other thing that worries me, Microsoft update will probably turn that keylogger back on every time there is an update. It only takes one time to forget to check after every update, then any one of Microsoft's rogue employees potentially has a hold of you by the bollocks.
