Buyout confirmed. Hoping the console will carry on in one form or another.

I'm relieved that they're going to keep the lights on with the OUYA servers for the next year, the lil console still gets a lot of play time over here.

Assuming I CAN still upload my insane oddities to the "OUYA" world, I will do.
It'll be a shame to see it disappear, so I hope that they continue to push it, in one form or another.

Bah...

Someone needs to do a micro console that's not based on a current OS, with a flagship game, an most important let the indie developer do their stuff if need be.

'nuff said!

I haven't hooked up my ouya in quite a while now. Not that I don't like the system, or the idea, but the hardware really would have suited being a handheld. Not knowing who the console was aimed at I think really hurt the company, as well as keep mentioning those 30,000 developers. I think if they would just use the number of actual devs, rather than number of sdk downloads, they would have had a hell of a lot more respect from the industry.

I dunno, I think having a system on an existing , or variant of an existing OS would make things a lot easier to gain developer support from, ease of porting, etc, etc. But if a new OS came out that had set-ups ready for popular languages / environments that would also be good!

I'll probably put my OUYA builds on itch.io in the coming days depending on what comes out of the AMA with RAZER on the 30th.

Also, yeah, 30k devs was such a stupid figure to be throwing around!

When people are aware of it having the Android OS the first thing that enters their mind is "just another Anroid box", I think that's the problem.

They probably would have done better with a unique system with a flagship game for the launch.

Yeah, I agree. It's a shame that the OUYA got pigeonholed as just another android box, just before the whole android box became more mainstream and considerably cheaper than an OUYA console itself.

Guess it's a case of developing for RAZER then now

Doesn't look like you can buy a Razer Forge in the UK so far though..Only spent a few minutes finding it but still, that's a few minutes too many. Hmmmmmm.

I've emailed their dev support team regarding the process for us devs to move things over from one platform to another, etc, etc. Will see what comes back.

Turns out it's not available over here...yet.

I've registered my interest over here though --> https://www.razerzone.com/gb-en/gaming-systems/razer-forge-tv

So I emailed OUYA.

I gave them a list of three games to keep an eye on.
"If these fail, some of my others might. If they're all fine, then that's ok!"

1. BlastTrax : Uses the somewhat glitchy background-bleed that breaks horribly on certain devices due to Android Fragmentation. On the actual Android edition, I made it an option, and defaulted it to "Off!" .. On the OUYA, I defaulted it to "WEEEEeeeee!!!!"
If a newer device breaks that, then I'll need to fix it.

2. SpikeDislike3 : Newest game, to ensure my latest stuff is still compatible.

3. Alien Spindome : Off the top of my head, the only of my games that uses both thumbsticks, so good for testing the controller.

The request was submitted, and the feedback was mostly positive, except .. I dunno.. I think they're too damn lazy to act as my official playtester, or something.
*tsk*

Lazy buggers can't be arsed testing all my games, or even apparently doing the three little tests that I specifically asked for.

Lazy buggers.
Ridiculous.

.. I must admit.. I do like their alternative option.

I guess there's something to be said for "having the most games on OUYA"..

I don't think OUYA knew who to aim at, but the OUYA itself was for people who like videogames rather than thousand hour bleeding edge quad-trillion resolution anti-tri-mip-alias-mapped shader-filtered semi-interactive B-movies.

If you think you need more power than a SNES to make a good videogame, it wasn't for you. (and you're wrong)
