; Hello World

BUSY BUSY BUSY BUSY BUSY!!!
So, this week I decided to cram a new Blockman into the space of a week. Around about an hour into making the maze generator, I figured "Hey, this is going to work!" and then as work continued, the game grew ever more larger.
I now have three distinct game modes.. Classic, Pathfinder, and Epic.
Each of these contain Endless "Path A, Path B, Random Path" selections with a highscore table.. (That's 9 scoreboards, folks!)
And, sure, that would probably be plenty.
But, "hey," I thought, "Why not add a per-level mode, too. So the player can play a level at a time, and work their way through, that way.."
Oooh, that could be fun!
So I started on a "Quest" mode for each of the gameplay modes, and now I have a main menu with 12 different bloomin' gameplay options, 9 of which start a "normal" endless infinitely large game, and the other 3 which open up another menu, filled with, literally, 1000 levels for each frickin' mode..
Each level has a highscore, and a target, and the Pathfinder mode uses completely different scoring mechanism, too.

...
Today will be day four of development.

I've opted to make this a two-week project, since I still have yet to add any kind of ingame features like Spikes, Boulders or other stuff of that sort.
And, alarmingly, I'm actually still trying to cram it into a shorter schedule. My current deadline is "about midday Sunday", in the hopes that, if I manage to get it all done by then, there's an extremely slim chance that my game could possibly, maybe, pass iOS Review in time for the next Tuesday's release day. Then I can carry on fixing and tweaking the game, bulking it up, but the basic edition will at least be ready to go.
*phew*

Suffice to say, this has been a crazy few days of development.

; Less of That...

SoCoder is very much the back-end of the dev scene. I take pride in the fact that we don't have 100,000,000 annoying little fanboys popping along every day to whinge about how their console doesn't have the latest Call of Duty, or how they've decided to place a My Little Pony sticker onto the front of their laptop.
Over the years, we've become a group of grumpy old men (except CodersRule, who's luckily becoming a grumpy youngster) and we all bumble about making random oddities, and generally getting along without too much fighting.
Occasionally, someone stumbles onto SoCoder, and thinks "Hey, there's not enough Spam on that forum!!"
I've recently decided to take the grumpy-old-man approach to spam removal.

; More of This...

Meanwhile, old favourites are re-emerging.
PsychicParrot, who grumpy older folk might remember from the days of BlitzCoder, decided to stop by and say hello. Time will tell if he decides to stick around, but the signs are good so far.
Welcome back to the fold, Mr Parrot!

; And Even More of This...

Another recent new member is Rychan, who, as Twitter user @refreshcreation, had been chatting with me about Monkey for a while, and inevitably decided to take the plunge.
Over the course of the past few days, he's not only gotten to grips with the language, and has started blogging about his experiences.

; Wii U!

Oh, god, they're all going to sign up to post Wii U Friendcodes, now, aren't they!? Bah...
Anyhoo, since I'm working my arse off, cramming Blockman into a ludicrously short period of time, busying away like a bee, that random oddball part of my brain went..
"Hey, Why don't you buy a Wii U!?"
.. and so I did. Not really sure why, except that I figured a Wii Fit Balance Board might come in handy to help with my balance based issues.
No idea if it will, but it'll be fun to see the results.

; Musical Interlude

Kuron has created some music, and decided to post about it on SoCoder.
Since he's part of our community, he's allowed to do that.
Using his awesome guitar skills, he's whipped up a couple of tunes and you can hear them both on his site.

; Evil Squirrels

Evil Roy Ferguson has released a game on iOS, and decided to post about it on SoCoder.
Since he's part of our community, he's allowed to do that.
The game's a nice little leaping platform-esque jumpy thing. Move left and right, and bounce on top of the little floating balls.

; Selling Up

Dabz's life is currently upside down, and after recent events, he's finally managed to sell the house.
After getting half of the proceeds, he's now got himself a nice stable bank account, and is hopefully managing to get things back to some kind of normality.
          socoder.net/?topic=3953

.. and so, he did what anyone would do, and booked himself a kick-ass holiday!
In just a few months time, he'll be jetting off to the US, staying in a luxury hotel, and . .. umm..
.. Dunno.. Never been..
What do folk do in New York?
*thinks*
Perhaps he'll befriend an ex-Holby-A&E nurse, get chased by criminals, and have to use birdseed to fend them off?
